Privacy Policy
This English version controls for users in the United States and Singapore.
Intake is a private nutrition-tracking tool. What you log here about your food and your body is personal. We collect only what we need to run the service, and we do our best to protect it.
1. What we collect
- Account information: your mobile phone number (if you sign in with a verification code), your email address (if you choose to add one), your username and display name, and an encrypted hash of your password (we cannot see your password). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account email and name.
- What you give us: meal logs (text, photos of food or nutrition labels, and voice recordings), your custom food library, your height, weight and weight history, your age, sex and activity level, your nutrition targets, and special circumstances you choose to enter such as pregnancy. Health and body data is sensitive personal information.
- Usage and security information: login sessions, IP address, device and browser type, and access times, used to keep you signed in, prevent abuse and troubleshoot problems.
- Trying it without an account: entries you make during a trial are stored only on your own device, and are saved to your account only after you confirm when you sign up. We use a random ID generated on your device, plus your IP address, to limit the number of trial uses per day.
- Reminders: if you turn on logging reminders, we store the push address provided by your browser, your time zone, and the times you usually log each meal (inferred from your logs).
2. How we use it
- To provide sign-in, cloud storage and sync across your devices;
- To recognize the food you photograph or describe, estimate nutrients, and generate AI reviews and suggestions;
- To send essential notices such as SMS verification codes and password-reset emails;
- To send mealtime reminders and weekly recaps according to your settings (reminders never include your weight, calories, pregnancy or other body information);
- To measure how features are used so we can improve the product (see Section 4, “Usage analytics”);
- To keep accounts and the service secure (rate limiting, abuse prevention, troubleshooting).
We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for purposes unrelated to the above, and we do not show ads.
3. Sensitive personal information
Your height, weight, age, meal logs, and information such as pregnancy and breastfeeding status are sensitive personal information. We collect them for one purpose: to calculate daily calorie and nutrient targets that suit you and to give you relevant safety reminders. Specifically:
- Target calculation is done on our own servers and is not sent to AI providers;
- When recognizing food, we send only that one description, photo or voice recording to the AI provider, without your body data;
- When generating a “daily review” or nutrition report, we send the AI provider a summary of your nutrient intake for that period, your targets, and your current stage (for example “fat loss”, “second trimester” or “breastfeeding”). This does not include your weight, name, phone number or anything else that identifies you;
- You can use logging without entering any of this information; you just will not get personalized targets.
By entering this information during onboarding or in settings, you agree that we may process it as described above. You can change or delete it at any time.
4. Third-party services and international transfers
- SMS: Alibaba Cloud Number Authentication Service (sends sign-in verification codes).
- Email: Resend (sends password-reset emails).
- AI recognition and reviews: To recognize food and write reviews, we send the following to large-language-model providers: the text, photos and voice recordings of your meals; the food names and portion habits in your food library; and, when generating a review, your target stage (such as fat loss or pregnancy) and daily nutrient totals. We do not send your name, phone number, email address or other identity information. The providers are DeepSeek (primary service for text recognition and reviews); Cerebras (primary service for photo recognition, and the backup for text recognition and reviews; located in the United States); Alibaba Cloud Qwen (primary service for speech-to-text); and Groq (backup for speech-to-text; located in the United States). We call these services only through their APIs and do not authorize them to train models on your data.
- Storage: Account and log data is stored in a MongoDB Atlas cloud database, on servers located in Malaysia.
- Usage analytics: PostHog (servers located in the European Union), used to understand how features are used and to improve the product, for example “completed a log” or “turned on reminders”. It contains only action events and a random ID. It does not include what you ate, your weight, or your body or pregnancy information. We do not record your screen, and your IP address is used only to determine your country or city and is not stored.
- Error monitoring: Sentry, used to find and fix software errors. It receives only error details and technical environment information.
- Push reminders: Reminders are delivered through your browser vendor’s push service (such as Apple, Google or Mozilla).
- Google Sign-In (if you choose to use it).
This processing involves transferring personal information across borders (our servers are in Malaysia, and our AI providers are in different countries and regions). By checking the consent box at sign-up, you agree that we may hand the food and body information described above to these providers for processing; we record the time of your consent and the version of this policy. Health information such as pregnancy and breastfeeding is processed only if you choose to enter it. You can stop using Intake and request deletion of your account at any time.
5. Consumer Health Data
This section summarizes how we handle consumer health data, including under the Washington My Health My Data Act. It is part of this Privacy Policy.
- What health data we collect: your height, weight and weight history; age and sex; pregnancy and breastfeeding status and due date, if you enter them; your meal logs; the photos of meals and nutrition labels you submit; and the voice recordings you submit to log meals.
- Why we collect it: to calculate daily calorie and nutrient targets that suit you, to estimate the nutrients in what you log, to generate reviews and reports, and to give you relevant safety reminders. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell it.
- Who processes it: we use the following service providers to process this data on our behalf, only as described in Section 4. DeepSeek, Cerebras, Alibaba Cloud Qwen and Groq receive your meal text, photos or voice recordings for food recognition and speech-to-text, and receive nutrient summaries and your target stage (not your weight or identity) for reviews. MongoDB Atlas stores your account and log data. PostHog receives usage events and Sentry receives error reports; neither receives your meal content, weight, or body or pregnancy information. We do not authorize any of them to train models on your data.
- Where it is stored: on servers in Malaysia. Data sent to AI providers is processed in the countries where those providers operate, including the United States.
- How to access, export and delete it: in the app, go to Me → Settings. Use “Export my data” to download all your logs, food library, weight history, body information and targets. Use “Delete account” at the bottom to immediately and permanently delete your account and all your data. Server database backups are cleared automatically within 14 days as backups rotate. You can also edit or remove your body information and pregnancy or breastfeeding status in Settings at any time.
- Consent: we process this data only if you give consent at sign-up and enter it yourself. We record the time of your consent and the version of this policy.
- Age: Intake is for users 14 and older. We do not knowingly collect health data from anyone under 14.
- Questions or requests: contact our data protection contact at intake@zengene.me.
6. Your rights
- In “Me · Settings · Account”, view and change your display name, phone number, email address and password;
- Export your data: in “Me · Settings”, tap “Export my data” to download all your logs, food library, weight records, body information and targets;
- Delete your account: at the bottom of “Me · Settings”, tap “Delete account”. Your account and all your data are immediately and permanently deleted and cannot be recovered;
- Turn off reminders in “Me · Settings · Logging reminders”, or turn off notifications in your device settings;
- Sign out at any time; you will need to sign in again to see your logs.
7. Protection and retention
Sign-in credentials use secure cookies that the browser cannot read; passwords are stored only as encrypted hashes; the database accepts connections only from our servers; and the whole site uses encrypted connections.
We keep your data for as long as you use Intake. When you delete your account, it is deleted immediately; database backups on our servers are cleared automatically within 14 days as backups rotate. What remains in usage analytics is a random ID that cannot be matched to anyone.
8. Children
Intake is for users aged 14 and older and does not currently support users under 14. Users under 18 do not receive a calorie plan; logging works as usual.
9. Important notice
Intake’s nutrition estimates and AI suggestions are for reference only and are not a medical diagnosis or dietary prescription. If you have signs of an eating disorder, are pregnant, or have a chronic condition, please consult a doctor or registered dietitian.
10. Changes and contact
When we update this policy we will mark the version date on this page, and for significant changes we will notify you in the app. If you have questions, or have trouble exercising the rights above, contact us at intake@zengene.me. This address is also our data protection contact.
